Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas, the duo from HGTV’s “Bargain Block” in Detroit, are working with local nonprofits to fund new roofing for homes in Detroit’s Fitzgerald neighborhood. Their goal is to raise $100,000 to replace roofs on 10 homes through their “Roof The Block” campaign.
In a heartfelt message shared on their Instagram, Bynum highlighted the project’s focus on aiding long-standing residents in maintaining their homes by providing new roofs. “Bargain Block” is renowned for revitalizing neglected properties in Detroit into affordable, trendy homes for first-time buyers, particularly in the Fitzgerald area, where the upcoming seasons of the show are set.
The GoFundMe campaign for the project notes that roof repairs are critical in preventing significant water damage and keeping houses habitable. The fundraising efforts are supported by Bynum and Thomas’s design firm, Nine Design and Homes, in collaboration with Brilliant Detroit and the Relentless Care Foundation, a branch of Community Financial Credit Union.
Cindy Eggleton, co-founder of Brilliant Detroit, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative and praised the HGTV stars for their dedication to the city’s long-term residents.

The Relentless Care Foundation has pledged to fund the first five roofs, with its Executive Director, Matt Nahan, recognizing the broader impact of home repairs on maintaining affordable housing and supporting wealth accumulation across generations.
Bynum and Thomas, who have renovated over 50 homes on their show and moved to Detroit in 2017 from Colorado, continue to share their journey, including the renovation of their own home. Within hours of launching, their GoFundMe page, available at www.gofundme.com/f/rooftheblock, had already gathered over $5,000, demonstrating strong community support for their cause.
