Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) provides a comforting home away from home for families with children undergoing medical treatment. While the organization supports countless families, it occasionally needs some help itself.

Recently, a heartwarming surprise emerged, fueled by strong community support.

Belfast native Peter Horch discovered his passion for roofing at the age of 23. In 2003, he founded Horch Roofing, which has since grown throughout Maine. However, Horch wanted his company to contribute to something beyond business.

“Horch Roofing is part of the National Roofing Contractors Association and the Roofing Alliance. Along with roofers nationwide, we’ve committed to sponsoring all 187 Ronald McDonald Houses across the country,” Horch shared.

This means providing free or discounted roofing services to Ronald McDonald Houses in need.

As it turns out, the Ronald McDonald House in Bangor had planned a significant roof project this year for their main house and apartment-style units.

Lauren Genenbacher, Marketing Manager for RMHC Maine, explained that the project would have cost thousands of dollars. One of the roofs they intended to work on required complete removal due to its condition. With this generous contribution from Horch Roofing, they can now allocate their funds toward other critical programs.

“We are just so incredibly thankful for this massive gift,” said Genenbacher. “Anyone who has had their roof redone knows that this is truly such a huge gift that will make a tremendous impact on our bottom line this year.”

Horch added, “We all need each other, and we live in a wonderful state. Families with children in the hospital face incredibly tough times, so if we can give back, it helps them, it helps the community, and it just feels good. It’s the right thing to do.”
